Tony Hawk's Project 8

Well, not to say that the Tony's Hawk series is over the hill, but his last outing (American Wasteland) was a complete waste of time. The PC version was even worse, being a very bad port of the console versions.
Here's my rundown of the Tony Hawk series:
  1. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater - Excellecnt, breath of fresh air in the stale Madden/NBA oriented sports genre. Even though you couldn't do manuals!! it still rawked.

  2. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 - Better than the first, new tricks (including the Roast-Beef, that has never made an appearance again in the series - actually the only trick I can do that isn't in the current Tony Hawk games!!), and new maps.

  3. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 - OK, kinda getting old now. Uninteresting maps. Graphics getting dated. But they improved the controls, double tapping directions and trick buttons added a new level of tricking - double tap flip on a varial flip to get a tre....genius.

  4. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 4 - Just like the others, with some gameplay enhancements. Was kinda fun. Basically the same as THPS3.

  5. Tony Hawk's Underground - The underground revolution, when every game seemed to have 'Underground' in the title. This was OK, added some new control enhancements. Maps were kinda silly. But overall I enjoyed it.

  6. Tony Hawk's Underground 2 - Same a before. A few gameplay 'improvements'. Graphics going downhill. Stupid story, jumping on the Jackass/Bam Margera bandwagon. Oh dear. I never played this coz it just looked so bad.

  7. Tony Hawk's American Wasteland - I guess I expected too much from this game. Basically its the same engine but with some 'gameplay enhancements'. Um....no more loading....bullshit. "Yeah, you skate down this corridor thing and you end up in the next hub. See. No loading" Boring. The story was OK, the maps got progressively crazier, the graphic....oh dear. The inclusion of bikes was fun but was just generally filler. No challenge to a Tony Hawk's series pro. It was kinda cool at the end when you got to jam with all the skaters in the park you made.

The series just seems to tack on more tricks, new gameplay quirks, stupid maps. There's really nothing new when it comes to a Tony Hawk's game. Was I expecting too much with the create a skater options, or making the game slightly more realistic. The series has just become more arcade and gimmicky to appeal to the largest common denominator. I feel it has also presented an image of skateboarding that I'm not too agreeable with.
I really only liked THPS2 and THUG, all the rest were just a regurgitation of the old stuff.

Hopefully Tony Hawk's Project 8 will solve all this. This game looks freakin' HAWT!!! Paul Rodriguez, Rodney Mullen, Stevie Williams!!! Those models are awesome!! The screenshots have the correct body positions!!! Please don't fuck this one up Neversoft. Make us OG's, coz I ain't gonna pour out another malt liquor for this series.

Peace Out.
